It'll be interesting to see if Apple develops AirDrop further in response to Samsung's Quick Share feature, given that we already know Apple is continually looking to improve its ad-hoc file sharing service. With AirDrop, you can only send to one recipient at a time. However, Quick Share has an added feature that AirDrop lacks – it allows you to share files with up to five people simultaneously. Similarly, Galaxy users can also choose to receive files from anyone or only people in their contacts. On the face of it, Quick Share works just like Apple's AirDrop, in that if you're near another user with a supported device, they will show up on your screen and you can share a picture, video, or file with them. On Tuesday, the Korean company unveiled its new trio of Galaxy S20 phones, and we finally got a better idea of what the local file-sharing feature can do. I suggest FileZilla, but if you don’t like that, you can use a FileZilla alternative as well.Last month we reported that Samsung was working on its own AirDrop killer for Galaxy devices, called Quick Share. You will need an FTP client on your Mac for this.

If that’s happening with you, or if you don’t want to use Snapdrop for any reason, you can use FTP to share files between Android and macOS. Sometimes, at least for me, Snapdrop refuses to work properly. Plus, it’s the closest thing to AirDrop I’ve seen so far. It works quite fast, it’s completely free, and you don’t need to install any apps on your devices. Personally, Snapdrop is my go-to choice for sharing files between Android devices and my Mac. You can click on your Android phone’s name on your Mac screen and choose the files you want to send to your phone.

This also works the other way around, by the way.You can then select the files you want to transfer. On your smartphone, tap on the Mac’s screen-name shown in Snapdrop. If you don’t see this, make sure both devices are connected to the same WiFi network and try to reload the website.
